Unbunking your bed is easiest when you work with a partner. Give yourself plenty of room to work by deflating or removing your air mattresses from the bed. Store your bunk ladder underneath the bed, and move aside your bedside tables and camping gear so you have clear access to the bolts in each bedpost.
Tools & Hardware
Remove the orange safety poles and store them in your side table. Store your bunk ladder under your bed.
Find the ratchet wrench in your tool bag to loosen the 8 nuts on the lower orange bedpost plates. Do not remove the nuts, simply loosen.
Tip: Use the ratchet end of the wrench to more easily loosen and tighten your bolts.
Remove all 8 nuts and washers on the upper orange bedpost plates. Be sure to save all your loose hardware in the tool bag.
Using the rubber mallet for assistance, remove all 8 top bunk bolts.
Tip: If your bolts get sticky, jiggle the bed frame a bit to loosen it free.
Lift the top bunk free from the bedposts. Rotate and lower the bunk to rest atop the bottom bed frame.
Tip: Always lift the bunk from the side rails, do not lift the bunk from the mattress support slats.
Remove the remaining bolts in each lower bedpost plate to detach the bedpost extensions from the bed. Store the bedpost extensions underneath your bed.
Tip: You can free the bedposts without removing each bolt individually, simply tap the post with the rubber mallet.
Lift and slot the top bunk into the shortened bedposts.
Insert 1 bolt into each bedpost plate to secure in place. Place two washers and one nut over the bolt, and use the wrench to tighten each nut.
